The Pacific Media Centre – Te Amokura – sought to stimulate research into contemporary Māori, Pasifika and ethnic diversity media and culture production.
The PMC, founded in 2007 at AUT University, collaborated with other Asia-Pacific media centres engaged in research and cultural production. However, it closed at the end of 2020. Its signature publications, such as the perr-reviewed journal Pacific Journalism Review, media freedom project Pacific Media Watch and current affairs website Asia Pacific Report are now published by the not-for-profit NGO Asia Pacific Media Network / Te Koakoa Inc.
